Yoda stars in new Vodafone campaign
Vodafone has completed the non-existent celebrity signing of the year by recruiting Yoda for their latest adverts
Vodafone has completed the non-existent celebrity signing of the year by recruiting Yoda for their latest adverts.
The 900-year-old Jedi Master will star (Wars) in a number of telly ads to showcase Vodafone’s new services that ensure customers get the most out of their phones and have the confidence to experiment with new functions and apps.
Demonstrating, of course, that the Force is Strong with the network provider each commercial has been produced by a team at Lucasfilm’s San Francisco-based visual effects facility Industrial Light & Magic, with actor Tom Kane giving voice to Yoda.
The first ad focuses on Yoda discovering his Jedi powers are not necessarily required thanks to RED Box, a service that automatically transfers contents from an old phone to a new handset.Seen attempting to use his power to help a couple with the daunting task of transferring numbers to the husband’s new smartphone, Yoda discovers that service has already solved the problem.
A spokesperson for Vodafone UK said: “These small things can mean the world to our customers – it’s why we have developed a range of simple services to help them feel confidently connected on the go.
“The campaign with Yoda shows that you don’t need to be a Jedi Master to unlock the power of mobile internet.”
With “the Force is Strong with Vodafone” already nabbed, Star Wars fans can still content themselves with adapting at least one quote for phone-related punnery.
As Obi-Wan Kenobi almost said: “These aren't the Androids you're looking for…”
The first ad premieres on Channel 4 between 8pm and 9pm tomorrow night.
